Some philosophers, by contrast, have thought that life could only be meaningful if there is a God. God and the Meanings of Life is interested in exploring the truth in both these schools of thought, answering the question then of what God could and couldn’t do to make life meaningful (as well as what he would and wouldn’t do). T. J. Mawson espouses a version of the ‘amalgam’ or ‘pluralism’ thesis about the issue of life’s meaning – in essence, that there are a number of different legitimate meanings of ‘meaning’ (and indeed ‘life’) in the question of life’s meaning. According to Mawson, God, were he to exist, would help with making life meaningful in some of these senses and hinder in some others; that’s why there’s truth in both schools of thought. The same would also apply to what he could do to resolve ‘trade off’ issues and secure ‘deeper’ and ‘overall’ meaningfulness. Is it possible that whilst there could be meaning in a Godless universe, there could be other sorts of meaning in a Godly one?

Mordet i Bergsjön – Diverse SAGA Egmont, 2018

Klockan är strax efter elva på kvällen den 14 april 2013 när de fyra männen kommer tillbaka till radhuset på Stjärnbildsgatan i Bergsjön. De har just gjort inbrott hos en äldre dam på Zenitgatan en knapp kilometer bort och ska nu bytet delas upp. De slår sig ner runt köksbordet, träpersiennerna för fönstren skymmer sikten utifrån hjälpligt, så de kan lägga upp bytet på bordet. De har hunnit sitta någon minut innan kaos bryter ut när någon smyger fram till fönstret och kikar in mellan springorna i persiennerna, siktar och avlossar fem skott. På bortre sidan av bordet sitter ägaren till radhuset, Ivan, han träffas av två av skotten, på hans högra sida sitter Martin som träffas i höger kind. De två andra undkommer oskadda. Larmet till polisen kommer in kl. 23.20.10 och samtidigt som radiobilarna beordras till platsen så larmas även ambulans som tar Ivan till sjukhus. Hans liv går dock inte att rädda. Han lämnar sambo och en ung son bakom sig.

Marsha Steele is at itagain. When she volunteers to help the high school librarian with a bookfair, Marsha stumbles across the woman's body and is roped into runningthe book fair alone. Marsha comes up with the great idea of doing thefair along with a harvest carnival. The main attraction is a HauntedTunnel. Little does she know, but evil lurks inside the tunnel that hasnothing to do with scary costumes. Join in as once again Marsha and a cast of zany characters try and catch a killer before they become the next victim.

«Una sorta di interminabile attacco di cuore»: così è stato definito "I diabolici", che – unanimemente considerato un classico della letteratura noir – non ha perso un grammo del suo torbido fascino: come dimostrano i commenti dei giovani blogger francesi, i quali scoprono stupefatti quanto l'attuale letteratura psicologica francese «à suspense» debba a un libro che ai loro occhi appare «di un'incredibile modernità», dotato di «un intrigo perfetto» e di «una tensione che fino all'ultimo non ti dà un attimo di tregua». Come nei migliori romanzi di Simenon, quello che conta qui è la progressiva perdita, da parte del protagonista, della percezione della realtà, il suo sprofondare sempre più allucinato in una vertigine di angoscia e di terrore in cui i deliri si accavallano ai ricordi d'infanzia e a un lacerante senso di impotenza. Nei "Diabolici" compaiono per la prima volta alcuni dei marchi di fabbrica della sterminata, formidabile produzione di Boileau e Narcejac: lo schema triangolare, l'ambientazione provinciale e piccoloborghese, il motivo del colpevole tormentato dal rimorso e dalla paura, la contiguità fra innocenza e colpa; e soprattutto l'inversione dei ruoli: in un'autentica spirale di orrore, l'assassino si trasforma in una vittima braccata da «colei che non c'è più» – la donna che sa di aver ucciso. Non a caso Francis Lacassin (sceneggiatore di molti Maigret televisivi e grande studioso di Simenon) ha scritto che proprio grazie a Pierre Boileau e Thomas Narcejac «il romanzo poliziesco senza poliziotti è diventato una variante tragica del romanzo tout court».
