This oral autobiography of Kimball Young is a history of sociology from 1912 to 1968. Interdisciplinary and international aspects of sociology's formation are stressed in Young's account as he discusses ideas and personalities he found most useful in understanding the development of European and American sociology. A lengthy editorial Introduction accentuates aspects of Young's oral account of his participation in sociology's development. Contents: Introduction; The Autobiography and the Man; Man in Transition: A View from 1995; Founders of the Chicago School, 1916-18; Stanford, Oregon, and Clark, 1919-26; Wisconsin, 1926-40; Later Chicago Contacts (1929-52); Queens and World War II, 1940-47; Northwestern, 1947-65, and After.
Author Biography: Fred B. Lindstrom is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Arizona State University.
