This book is divided into four parts. Chapter I presents a brief introduction, a cursory survey of the significance of sport in industrial societies. Chapter II presents an analysis of the process of mass communication and its relation to sport. Chapter III constitutes the core chapter of the book. It is concerned with the role of sport in developing countries in relation to processes of social change. In Chapter IV essays are oriented towards the future of sport in general and at the prospects of top-level sport in particular
