Ainutlaatuinen teos Viipurin ja viipurilaisten kohtalon vuosista.Kun Neuvostoliiton pommikoneet ilmestyivät Viipurin taivaalle syksyllä 1939, saivat kaupungin asukkaat käskyn lähteä kodeistaan. Lähtö oli kiireinen, eikä mukaan ehditty pakata kuin välttämättömin, jos sitäkään.Jatkosodassa menetetyt alueet vallattiin takaisin, ja evakot palasivat kotiseudulleen 1941. Tuhon jälkien keskelläkin ilo Viipurin takaisin saamisesta oli suuri. Kunnostustöiden keskellä ja uutta alkua rakentaessa ei tiedetty, miten lyhyeksi kotiinpaluun onni jäisi. Kun rauhanehdoissa raja palautettiin vuoden 1940 linjalle, viipurilaiset menettivät kaupunkinsa uudelleen. Antero Raevuori on koonnut teokseensa niin siviilien kokemuksia kuin arkistojen kätköistä löytyneitä dokumenttiaineistoja.
