This book, a companion volume to "UK Education: Facts and Figures", provides wide and varied data covering all of western Europe, including western countries outside the EU (but excluding the former Communist countries, except East Germany). The book is made up of three main sections which give a brief account of the historical and geographical backgrounds of the countries, a country-by-country description of educational institutions and a comparison of how the countries vary in all matters relating to education. The author describes the European countries and their educational systems, institutions and processes in the first part of this book. In the second part he makes a comparison of the countries and how they vary in relation to education
