备用描述

This definitive textbook for equine veterinary nurses will be invaluable to all those involved in the care and management of sick horses. Endorsed by the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), this book covers the syllabus for the new Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons equine veterinary nursing certificate. Key subjects include: medical and surgical equine nursing; equine stud medicine; basic equine management, and the theory underpinning all these and other important topics.
The book also includes innovative chapters on nutrition, imaging, anatomy and physiology. The subject matter is presented in a clear and easily assimilated format, appropriate for all involved in equine nursing. The approach throughout is practical and the book is laid out in a user-friendly manner with copious diagrams and photographs.
KEY FEATURES

The first dedicated book on equine veterinary nursing

Written by equine veterinary surgeons and nurses

Authors include examiners for the equine veterinary nursing examination

Includes contributions from experienced veterinary nurses holding the equine veterinary nursing certificate

Case studies are used throughout to bring the theory to life

A useful reference for everybody in any veterinary practice doing equine work

Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Jonathan Hale Foreman, DVM, MS(University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine)
Description:This is intended as an entry-level textbook for the newly-recognized British field of equine veterinary nursing. The 35 authors contribute 20 chapters covering from basic anatomy and physiology through anesthesia and assistance in surgery.
Purpose:The purpose is "to provide the definitive textbook for equine veterinary nurses." A broader secondary objective is to "be useful to all those involved in the care and management of the sick horse." The book meets these lofty goals and should serve as the standard by which other equine veterinary nursing textbooks are defined.
Audience:The intended audience is veterinary nursing students, or veterinary technicians as they are called in the United States. The book covers most of the important areas for nursing or technician care in the equine hospital, although ambulatory care should comprise a valuable addition in a later edition. The authors are all credible experts in their fields and provide excellent advice and teaching material in their respective chapters.
Features:The book contains chapters on basic physiology (anatomy, physiology, genetics, reproduction, nutrition); first aid and general nursing; medications; laboratory diagnosis; fluid therapy; imaging; anesthesia; and nursing of medical, surgical, neonatal, and pediatric cases. The chapters are broken into numerous subheadings, impeding the flow somewhat at times, but making main or bullet points easier to identify for the student. Case examples are sprinkled throughout the book to illustrate primary care cases of the disease discussed in the text. These cases, although not discussed in great detail, are helpful illustrations of examples of the diseases or conditions described in greater detail. The illustrations are all black and white, helping to keep down the cost of the book, but sometimes diminishing the quality.
Assessment:Veterinary nursing or technician students will find this a useful source for much of their equine curriculum. There is no other book like it covering the topics it covers in equine nursing. The authors have purposefully omitted equine management topics, so other sources may be required to complete that portion of the curriculum.
