描述
This book is the resultofmytime as aresearch fellowatthe German Research Foundation (DFG) Research Training Group 1787 "Literature and Dissemination of Literatureinthe Digital Age" at the UniversityofGoettingen, Germany, between 2014 and 2017. During thattime, Ihad the great pleasure of working with a number of likeminded colleagues from avarietyofdisciplineswho all share a large interestindigital technologies and their complex roles within cultureand society. Thanks are thus to the people affiliated with this research group for providing me with the unique opportunityt odelvedeeply into the fascinating world of i-docs, digital ethnography, software studies, new materialismand nonrepresentational theory. Special thanksgotoProf. Dr.Regina Bendix, my main thesis adviser and one of my earliest academic mentors. Equally supportive and critical of my work, she has always pushed me and my thinking further.Iwould also liketothank my other supervisors Prof. Dr.Babette Bärbel Tischleder and Dr.C hristian Hißnauer for their continuous feedback,a dvice and support. Moreover,Iam grateful to Dr.Torsten Näser who, over the years, has turned from ateacher into avalued colleagueand friend. Iowe him thanks in particular for always being there to runideas by and for his trust in our jointventure.
Another vital environmentfor this research projectaswell as my academic and personal developmentwas the one provided by Adrian Miles, former new media lecturer at RMIT Universityi nMelbourne and dearly missed colleague. Without his generosity, openness and ongoing supportthis work would not have been possible. What Il earned from him during hours and hours of filmed interviews, teaching sessions and informal chats is afundamental shiftinperspective. This book is amanifestationofthat and thus dedicated to Adrian and his witty, tireless, at times fierce but always approachable wayo fl ooking at, engaging with and thinking throught he world.Ialso owet hanks to Hannah Brasier,Kim Munro and the other research-practitioners at the non/fictionLab for welcoming me and sharing their work and ideassoopenly.
Last but not least Iamextremely grateful to my husband and parents for their love, patience and encouragement. Icould not have done it without you. 16 Amongst the projectsr egarded as most influential are productions commissioned by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) including the Highrise series (2010;2 011), Fort McMoney (2013) or Bear 71 (2013). Other much-discussed works include the Quipu Project (2015) as well as the VR documentaries by journalist NonnydelaPeÇa. For acomprehensive overview,cf. 备用描述
Software-based technologies deeply saturate our everyday lives. Consequently, they also influence the ways we see and mediate the world. In fact, the ease and flexibility software provides implies a shift in control. Digital media mediates itself, turning software into a co-author. Yet, the potentials of such a co-authorship are still largely constrained by conventions stemming from the need to run strips of celluloid through a projector. This book demonstrates how software can retrain filmmakers’ visions of the world – from branching trees to the shifting contours of clouds. It does so by ethnographically studying one particular technology, the Korsakow System. The result is a methodology for interrogating established software regimes; a task increasingly in need of anthropological attention.
