The skies over England in August 1940 are full of Spitfires and Hurricanes, Messerschmitts and Heinkels. The Battle of Britain is raging overhead and each side is looking for an advantage that might tip the balance in their favour. But hundreds of years before, the village of Dervon is being terrorised by a winged menace of its own ... a fire-breathing dragon named Tibalt who's intent on wiping out the village in retaliation for the murder of one of its kind. However, a young woman named Lavena is determined to save the village from destruction and, with the help of a wizard named Asvald, she rids the village of the dragon. But the dragon is not destroyed, only sent forward in time ... with Lavena firmly clutched within its arms. As the Battle of Britain intensifies, even more aeroplanes are falling from the sky, burnt to a crisp or torn to shreds, and it is up to RAF Lieutenant Sheridan Ballard to find out what the devil is going on before any more of Britain's valuable few fall to the new German superweapon. But is it a German superweapon? The Luftwaffe doesn't think so, and sends an operative across the Channel to learn the secrets of the new British warplane and destroy it before the battle is lost. Now it's up to a young woman from a small village, an injured RAF officer and a hundreds-of-years-old wizard to find the dragon and convince it that 1940 is not a good year for dragons. Then they must find a way to send it back to when it belongs before it's shot from the sky and the course of history is forever changed
