Unlike traditional sports encyclopedias, Sports in America is not an almanac of teams, athletes and statistics. Topics include psychological issues affecting athletic performance and spectatorship; race and ethnicity; law and ethics; professionalism versus amateurism; nationalism, regionalism, and urbanization; and artistic expression.
