Based on their work in American, Japanese, and Italian universities and companies, the contributors of this volume presented their research at a workshop held on Maui in January of 2001. The 12 short papers concern low-power system design, memory hierarchy, compilers/operating systems, and high-performance systems. Individual topics include cache-in memory, pipelined memory hierarchies, cache coherence protocol for home proxy cache on RHiNET, and a report on the present status of the Earth simulator supercomputer in Japan.
