The first edition of this text was written by the author in preparation for the FRCS(Plast) examination. It is a collection of notes that addresses the whole curriculum of plastic surgery providing information on clinical anatomy, points of technique and the fundamental principles relevant to each subject area. There are self assessment sections and hundreds of reviews of published articles. This text has become essential reading for all trainees and the second edition has sought to update the text mainly with regard to material published over the past 5 years. There is no other textbook of plastic surgery of this kind available to trainees in plastic surgery.

Intended for plastic surgery residents or recent graduates, this text provides a comprehensive review of the most important concepts that need to be mastered for the board exam. The author notes that the intent is not to serve as a complete reference, but rather as an easily accessible text for quickly looking up information. This book is composed of 10 chapters covering the full spectrum of plastic surgery. For each subject, the anatomy and embryology is reviewed prior to the presentation of factual information. The information presented is concise and focused on subjects most likely to be tested. References to texts and journals are abundant. The chapters are presented in a staccato outline form. The inclusion of figures and tables would serve to reinforce important concepts and break up the monotony of the material. This book is appropriately titled. It presents a great deal of information in outline form, making it ideal for quick reference. The mundane presentation makes it a difficult read for prolonged periods. Revising the text and taking notes as part of a review for the board exam, as suggested by the author, should serve the graduating resident well. This approach, in combination with review of information from a major plastic surgery text, should allow for adequate preparation for the board exam.</p>
