Este libro tiene un doble objetivo: analizar el proceso de configuración de la realidad a partir de su percepción y estudiar ese proceso en la época en la que se redefine el sentido histórico de lo figurativo; a saber, la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y la primera del XX. Por razones que se aclaran a lo largo del libro, el análisis toma como hilo conductor la gran transformación de la plástica en el período que acabamos de señalar (sobre todo en la pintura), aunque también recurre a la literatura, lo que permite abarcar la compleja relación del arte con la cultura y, más aún, con la comprensión del ser del hombre que la filosofía y el pensamiento contemporáneos han desarrollado en paralelo con el trabajo artístico. Los cinco capítulos del libro siguen un claro orden expositivo y argumentativo, aunque es dable leerlos por separado si uno solo quiere un acercamiento a la temática que en cada uno se elucida y que se enuncia desde el título respectivo.

Este libro se enmarca en un área de la didáctica de las ciencias naturales que promueve la generación de una enseñanza de las ciencias que incluya las cosmovisiones de los pueblos originarios en su definición. Su objetivo principal es develar qué vínculos permiten poner en comunicación conocimientos científicos y vernáculos sobre una misma temática en común. El fin último de este conocimiento pretende contribuir con la generación de prácticas significativas para las poblaciones indígenas, en particular de la Argentina. Para ello, la temática elegida son las Pléyades, un cúmulo estelar abierto de gran significatividad para las poblaciones amerindias. A través de una metodología investigación-acción, se realizaron diversas acciones que condujeron a conocer posibles abordajes de las Pléyades desde las perspectivas de la ciencia occidental y una perspectiva vernácula particular. Se realizaron intervenciones en distintos contextos educativos a través de diversos dispositivos de modo de abordar y relevar los conocimientos que circulan por las aulas y la comunidad social sobre dicho cúmulo estelar, contextos en los que transitan conocimientos provenientes de sus cosmovisiones. Se indagó a través de estudios lingüísticos, antropológicos, etnocientíficos y pedagógicos con el fin de caracterizar los conocimientos vernáculos, de modo de poder interpretar las representaciones propias de los actores involucrados. También se apeló a marcos teóricos particulares de la didáctica de las ciencias naturales, en especial, de la didáctica de la astronomía, para caracterizar las representaciones científicas escolares en relación con la enseñanza de las Pléyades. Por tener un mismo hecho o fenómeno diferentes interpretaciones, es importante conocer sus puntos de contacto, lo que puede contribuir con la generación de propuestas de enseñanza en contextos de Educación Intercultural Bilingüe. A partir de la necesidad de propiciar la circulación de conocimiento significativo de ciencias naturales en contextos educativos multiculturales y multilingüísticos, hoy ausente en gran medida, se pretende generar investigación didáctica que busque maneras de crear vínculos de significatividad entre conocimientos vernáculos y científicos.

Grain legume crops, e.g. common bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.), and soyabeans ( Glycine max L.) are amongst the main sources of protein in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Their high protein content derive from their ability, in symbiosis with Rhizobium bacteria, to fix atmospheric nitrogen. Incorporating contributions from molecular biologists, microbiologists, plant breeders and soil scientists, this volume reports the results of an FAO/IAEA Co-ordinated Research Programme (1992-1996), whose main objective was to develop molecular biological methods to study rhizobial ecology. Use of better tracking methods will help enhance biological nitrogen fixation and thus grain legume yields, while reducing their reliance on soil- and/or fertilizer-nitrogen. This volume will be invaluable to scientists working on biological nitrogen fixation, soil microbial ecology and legume production.

Islam prides itself on being “the religion of facility”. Muslim sources are unanimous in assigning to Judaism the role of counterweight in this regard, pronouncing it a system of “burdens and shackles” by which the Jews “oppressed their souls”. This neat polarity both fueled, and was the product of, a fascinating reciprocal process: at the same time that sharî'a was being created in the negative image of halakha, halakha was being retroactively re-imagined by Muslim jurists and exegetes as the antipode of sharî'a . Although scholarly studies of the intertexture of Islam and Judaism abound, few have touched upon the Muslim tradition’s perception and utilization of Jewish law, and none has done so in depth. This book aims to fill that lacuna and further our understanding of the age-old embrace and grapple between the two faiths.
