To improve the convergence rate of model-free learning adaptive controller (MFLAC) and decrease difficulty of parameters choice in control law, a new design method of MFLAC is presented. The controller proposed in this paper is designed based on pseudo gradient concept with solution by introducing multi-innovation method. In order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, numerical example is shown.

Turning operation is fundamental in the manufacturing industry to produce cylindrical parts especially for producing near-nett shape, and aesthetic requirements with good dimensional accuracy. This present research chapter, an attempt has been made to investigate the machining characteristics of titanium alloys. The investigation has been carried out to measure the effect of tool flank wear, surface roughness, cutting force and temperature on different cutting tools by adopting Taguchi’s design of experiment concept. This investigation was set to analyse and develop a mathematical model using response surface methodology, fuzzy logic. The observed responses were optimized using grey relational grade algorithm. Except for a few cases, the experimental results have close proximity (95%) to the predicted value. This validates the model developed in this work. Orthogonal array with grey relational analysis has been successfully implemented for the optimization of the machining parameters. The optimized cutting conditions evolved in this research study will help to achieve better machinability of these advanced materials like titanium alloy.

Annotation Experimental programs in laboratories give real results to identify nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) structures but they are limited to knowledge of particular cases under restricted structural dimensions, sizes, shapes, loading and boundary conditions but the computational simulation approach has no limit to its application. Constitutive models are developed to simulate the dynamic nonlinear response of concrete and steel reinforcement subjected to cyclic loading varying randomly in magnitude. The behavior of structural concrete under monotonic loading is affected by important material aspects including cracking, crushing, tension stiffening, compression softening and bond slip. Reversed cyclic loading introduces further complexities such as stiffness degradation in concrete and the Bauschinger effect in reinforcing steel. In this research the validity and reliability of some proposed constitutive models for concrete considering general loading i.e. cyclic, monotonic, partial, common point and transition loading are evaluated. Amongst many existing constitutive models, because of their simplicity and common usage in the finite element analysis of RC structures, only some common proposed models based on nonlinear elasticity-based approach are investigated. These models are verified against experimental data available in the literature and the results are discussed. In this study, also, a hysteretic stress-strain model is developed for unconfined concrete with the intention of providing efficient modeling for the structural behavior of concrete in seismic regions. The proposed model is based on the findings of previous experimental and analytical studies. The model for concrete subjected to monotonic and cyclic loading, comprises four components in compression and tension; an envelope curve (for monotonic and cyclic loading), an unloading curve, a reloading curve, and transition curve. Also presented are formulations for partial unloading and partial reloading curves. The proposed Constitutive model reliability is investigated by RC members non-linear finite element analysis (FEM) using by finite element software ABAQUS. Comparisons with test results showed that the proposed model provides a good fit to a wide range of experimentally established hysteresis loops

Defects and Diffusion in Carbon Nanotubes (Defect and Diffusion Forum) D. J. Fisher Trans Tech Publications, Limited, Defect and Diffusion Forum, Switzerland, 2014

Carbon nanotubes are one of the newest materials to be discovered, being barely 20 years old. They are also the most promising one, with one particular sample of multi-walled nanotube attaining a tensile strength of 63GPa, and with carbon nanotubes in general having a specific strength of up to 48000kNm/kg: effectively a direct exploitation of the covalent sp2 bonding between carbon atoms. Plastic deformation begins at about 5% strain. The nanotubes can be produced in lengths of up to 550mm, and thicknesses as small as 4.3Å; making them perfect reinforcement fibres for composites. They also have many other properties which may be useful in electronics, gas storage , etc. The present compilation focuses on the various characteristic types of defect which are found in carbon nanotubes, plus the relatively limited number of diffusion studies which have been performed. The 418 entries cover the period from 1994 to 2014. In this paper, as a fundamental study to evaluate fracture characteristics and material degradation by corrosion, evaluated electrochemical corrosion and corrosion fatigue characteristics of CF8A steel using as a material of the piping system in nuclear power plant. CF8A steel was artificially degraded at 400°C for 3 months. The environmental test condition is 3.5wt.% NaCl solution of room temperature. Corrosion rate of degraded CF8A steel in NaCl solution of room temperature increases with concentration of NaCl solution increase. However, concentration of NaCl solution will be more than 4.0wt.%, it shows decreasing tendency. Crack growth rates of degraded and not-degraded CF8A steel in air condition do not show remarkable difference. However, in 3.5wt.% NaCl solution, crack growth rates of them showed higher than ones in air. Particularly, crack growth rate of degraded material remarkably increases compare to one of notdegraded material.
