Avhandlingen syftar till att undersöka folkhögskoledeltagares sociala representationer om högskola och universitet. Enligt teorin om sociala representationer är folkhögskoledeltagarnas sociala representationer om högskola och universitet något som skapas socialt och förändras beroende på deltagarnas erfarenheter av högskola och universitet. Avhandlingen syftar också till att undersöka dessa sociala representationers ursprung och framväxt, liksom om de har påverkats av andra sociala representationer exempelvis dem om folkhögskolans särart. För att identifiera folkhögskoledeltagarnas sociala identitet och sociala representationer har jag använt mig av empiriska data insamlat genom fria associationer och intervjuer med folkhögskoledeltagare och före detta folkhögskoledeltagare. För att undersöka representationernas ursprung har jag genomfört en dokumentstudie på folkhögskolelärarnas tidskrift. Resultaten visar att folkhögskolans företrädare genom hela folkhögskolans historia har förhållit sig till två huvudidéer, den om folkhögskolans särart och den om att folkhögskolan är en institution som anpassar sig efter det omkringliggande samhället och dess krav. Dessa båda idéer förklarar varför olika sociala identiteter och olika sociala representationer existerar bland folkhögskoledeltagarna. Grundidén att folkhögskolan har en särart leder till representationer om folkhögskolan som ett alternativ till annan utbildning och högskola och universitet som något som inte är likt folkhögskola. Den andra grundläggande idén om folkhögskolan som en institution som ständigt anpassar sig leder till representationer om folkhögskolan som en andra chans och högskolan som mål

Lund University: Department of Scandinavian Languages, 2006. - 286 p. This dissertation addresses the question of what the function of morphological case is in Icelandic. The working hypotheses of this book is that morphological case is a multifunctional category. Firstly, new verbs in Icelandic were collected and examined to cast light on the productivity of the morphological cases, revealing that not only are the nominative and accusative productive in Icelandic but also the dative. Secondly, a textbased investigation was conducted to find out what the statistical correlation is between morphological case, syntactic functions and thematic roles. Thus, a well-stratified corpus was compiled, containing Modern Icelandic texts from five written genres and one spoken genre. The study showed that there is a correlation between morphological case and both syntactic and semantic factors. Thirdly, a similar corpus was compiled for Old Icelandic, containing four genres which are closest in content to the Modern Icelandic genres. Some frequency differences were found between the two corpora, reflecting a change in the use of morphological case from Old to Modern Icelandic. Fourthly, a comparison of the development of case in English, Swedish and German revealed that the internal order of the changes within the case system is the same for the Germanic languages considered, with English leading the development, followed closely by Swedish, then German, and Icelandic lagging behind. The theoretical approach adopted in this work is that of Construction Grammar and the Usage-based model. ISBN: 91-628-4898-4

This dissertation describes the Ndengeleko language of Tanzania, in particular the phonology and morphology in the noun and verb phrase. This Bantu language, spoken by approximately 72,000 people, has not been the subject of any previous linguistic study. The analysis is based on extensive interviews and recordings, carried out in the Rufiji region of Tanzania with various speakers of the language. A sociolinguistic survey is also included, based on interviews and a questionnaire used in schools. This survey shows that the Ndengeleko language is endangered and is being transmitted to the next generation only to a very limited extent. Ndengeleko has seven vowels, which can be long or short, and a relatively limited consonant inventory. In general, the inventory resembles that of the reconstructed proto-language. The language has been affected by the historical sound change spirantisation, and has thereafter has lost consonants in the relevant contexts. Morpho-phonological processes are important in Ndengeleko and result in nasal consonant sequences as well as geminate nasals. It is argued that the nasal consonant combinations are sequences rather than unit segments. Moreover, processes related to vowel concatenation play an important role in this language. As a fairly typical Bantu language, Ndengeleko has 18 noun classes, with singular, plural or non-count reference. Apart from more regular pairings of singular and plural classes, there is a tendency to accept classes 4 and 6 as the plural of almost any singular class, rendering the number of possible combinations numerous. The division into noun classes underlies the system of agreement. Agreement is not always formal, however, but is influenced by semantic aspects such as animacy. Ndengeleko exhibits elaborate agglutinating morphology in the verb phrase, both derivational and inflectional. The system of tense-aspect-mood is largely aspectual in its nature, and morphemes are combined to form the different categories of this system. Moreover, there is a distinction between conjoint and disjoint forms of the same tense-aspect-mood category, which is related to focus.
