This volume focuses on Friedrich Schiller, who leaves Humboldt in mid-1795 "for a few weeks" that turn into 16 months after Schiller finds his mother mortally ill in Berlin. The two men continue by letter the philosophical conversations they had been conducting in Jena on a near-daily basis. Many of the c. 170 letters in this volume, written before Humboldt left Jena in 1797, are also addressed to Goethe, C. G. Körner, Jacobi, and F. A. Wolf.

This grammar of English embraces major lexical, phonological, syntactic structures and interfaces. It is based on the substantive assumption: that the categories and structures at all levels represent mental substance, conceptual and/or perceptual. The adequacy of this assumption in expressing linguistic generalizations is tested. The lexicon is seen as central to the grammar; it contains signs with conceptual, or content, poles, minimally words, and perceptual, and expression, poles, segments. Both words and segments are differentiated by substance-based features. They determine the erection of syntactic and phonological structures at the interfaces from lexicon. The valencies of words, the identification of their semantically determined complements and modifiers, control the erection of syntactic structures in the form of dependency relations. However, the features of different segment types determines their placement in the syllable, or as prosodies. Despite this discrepancy, dependency and linearization are two of the analogical properties displayed by lexical, syntactic and phonological structure. Analogies among parts of the grammar are another consequence of substantiveness, as is the presence of figurativeness and iconicity.

Es ist eine Situation entstanden, die mit dem Wort »Patt« bezeichnet wird. Durch die Abwesenheit eines Abge ordneten der Regierungs-Koalition hat die Opposition eine ein fache Mehrheit im Bundestag. Die Regierung kann Gesetzesvor lagen nur noch mit Zustimmung der Opposition durchbringen. Die Opposition sieht keine Möglichkeiten, die Regierung zu stürzen und bei übernahme der Regierung zu günstigeren Mehrheitsver hältnissen zu gelangen. Allerdings ist sie in der Lage, noch vor Auf lösung des Bundestages Gesetzesvorlagen gegen den Willen der Koalition durchzusetzen. Regierung und Opposition sehen daher in der vorzeitgen Auflö sung des 6. Deutschen Bundestages und in (für den 19. November 1972 angesetzten) Neuwahlen die Möglichkeit, zu neuen und klaren Mehrheitsverhältnissen zu kommen. Diese kleine Schrift will den politisch Interessierten über wesent liche politische und rechtliche Voraussetzungen und Gegebenheiten dieser ersten vorzeitigen Bundestagsneuwahl informieren. The symposium had about 500 participants from more than 30 countries all over the world. It attracted academicians and practitioners working in various fields of Operations Research and provided them with the most recent ad vances in Operations Research and related areas in Economics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. The program consisted of 4 plenary and 19 semi-plenary talks and more than 300 contributed presentations, selected by the program committee, to be presented in 20 sections. Due to a limited number of pages available for the proceedings volume, the length of each article as well as the total number of accepted contributions had to be restricted. Submitted manuscripts have therefore been reviewed and 59 of them have been selected for publication. Partendo da un esame della vecchiaia come problema demografico che interroga oggi soprattutto le società occidentali, l'autore racconta le origini della legge approvata recentemente dal governo Meloni, alla cui progettazione e stesura egli stesso ha partecipato. La vecchiaia d'altronde, sostiene monsignor Paglia, non è solo età biologica, ma anche età spirituale, tempo di crescita interiore. E in questo senso va rivalutata e persino ripensata e riprogettata. La parte centrale del presente volume si occupa poi delle domande che riguardano il momento ultimo della nostra esistenza, nella consapevolezza che, se c'è un "fine vita" che non possiamo semplicemente rimuovere, esiste però anche una continuità della vita nella sua forma eterna, amata da Dio da sempre, e verso la quale dobbiamo camminare con speranza, meno preoccupati di sopravvivere e più attenti al tema del risorgere. Nella parte conclusiva di questo libro, che è un commento all'ultimo articolo del Credo, «aspetto la risurrezione dei morti e la vita del mondo che verrà», l'autore parla della prospettiva cristiana di una vita che non finisce con la morte: narra della risurrezione di Gesù, del mistero della risurrezione della carne, della salvezza che va intesa come universale e non individuale, della beatitudine celeste.
