nexusstc/The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome/c81b6fc389f89a045e883d53362e552d.epub
The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome Dr Anthony Attwood Jessica Kingsley Publishers, English Edition, 1, 2006
The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome is the definitive handbook for anyone affected by Asperger's syndrome (AS). Now including a new introduction explaining the impact of DSM-5 on the diagnosis and approach to AS, it brings together a wealth of information on all aspects of the syndrome for children through to adults. Drawing on case studies and personal accounts from Attwood's extensive clinical experience, and from his correspondence with individuals with AS, this book is both authoritative and extremely accessible. Chapters examine: \* causes and indications of the syndrome \* the diagnosis and its effect on the individual \* theory of mind \* the perception of emotions in self and others \* social interaction, including friendships \* long-term relationships \* teasing, bullying and mental health issues \* the effect of AS on language and cognitive abilities, sensory sensitivity, movement and co-ordination skills \* career development. There is also an invaluable frequently asked questions chapter and a section listing useful resources for anyone wishing to find further information on a particular aspect of AS, as well as literature and educational tools. Essential reading for families and individuals affected by AS as well as teachers, professionals and employers coming in contact with people with AS, this book should be on the bookshelf of anyone who needs to know or is interested in this complex condition. 'I usually say to the child, "Congratulations, you have Asperger's syndrome", and explain that this means he or she is not mad, bad or defective, but has a different way of thinking.' - from The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome

Rubio - Mind Body Techniques ... Ron Rubio; foreword by Irene Brody Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2011
After a few sessions with you, Nathan became aware of how he was carrying himself. We noticed a change in his gait. He was straighter, taller and more assertive in his walking. His gait was that of a confident man... He beamed with pride as I went on and on about how differently he presented himself. It shook me up!' - letter to Ron Rubio from the mother of a 22-year-old client with Asperger's Syndrome People with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) typically experience difficulty with balance, coordination and sensory awareness. The mind/body exercises in this book help young people with AS improve these skills, leading to greater self-confidence, and independence. Easy to use, with photographs to show how exercises are done correctly, these techniques can have an immediate effect on how an individual stands, sits, moves, thinks of him- or herself, and relates to others. The author's approach integrates ideas and practices from disciplines including martial arts, Eastern principles of mindfulness, techniques of visualization, breathing, posture, and movement, and the practice of mentoring. Mind/Body Techniques for Asperger's Syndrome is an introduction to Pathfinder training techniques for both parents of adolescents with AS and professionals including physical therapists, pediatricians, and special education teachers who work with them.

The book contains the latest research on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, intervention and support of individuals with ASD, and examines their implications at various stages of life. A wide range of neurological, genetic, psychological, developmental, social, and emotional issues are covered, and the author also includes less accessible information on the diagnosis and treatment of associated psychiatric and medical conditions, the overlap between the ASDs and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and the management of behavioural and forensic problems. The author does not presume existing technical knowledge and the background to new methods of assessment, such as functional magnetic resonance imaging, standardized clinical and psychological assessment, and genetic testing, is explained. This book is a resource for working with individuals of all ages who are on the autism spectrum. It contains research into the causes and treatment of the disorder.;Sciences basic to ASD -- Neurology of the superficial structures of the brain -- Cerebellum and deep structures in the forebrain -- Interactions in genes and neurons -- Developmental, social and emotional considerations -- Social orientation, communication and language -- Nonverbal communication, empathy and theory of mind -- Neuropsychology of ASD -- Clinical aspects of ASD -- Autistic syndrome -- Presentation, prevalence, treatment and course of the autism spectrum disorders -- Clinical assessment of the ASDs -- Aetiology of the autism spectrum disorders -- Presentation in infancy and childhood (the pre-school years) -- Presentation of Asperger syndrome in middle childhood -- Presentation of Kanner syndrome in middle childhood -- Presentation of Asperger syndrome in later childhood and adolescence -- Presentation of atypical Asperger syndrome, often with ADHD, in late childhood and adolescence (secondary school and college) -- Presentation and consequences of Asperger syndrome in adulthood.

Nonverbal Learning Disabilities at School : Educating Students with NLD, Asperger Syndrome and Related Conditions Tanguay, Pamela B.; Jessica Kingsley Pub; Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2014
Most teachers will at some point come across a child with nonverbal learning disabilities, and this practical and informative book will be invaluable in helping them to help such children to achieve their full potential in the classroom. Topics such as finding the right school, curriculum modifications, and social and emotional issues experienced by children with NLD are covered. However, the bulk of the book outlines specific teaching strategies, from how to deal with essay questions, to tips on helping the student master long division and ideas for improving reading comprehension. The author defines and discusses concepts such as frontloading and a cooperative learning environment, and discusses how they benefit the student with NLD.

Brotherly Feelings : Me, My Emotions, and My Brother with Asperger's Syndrome Sam Frender, Robin Schiffmiller Jessica Kingsley Publishers; Jessica Kingsley Pub., Jessica Kingsley Publishers, London, 2007
It isn't easy being eight years old and having an older brother whom other children often misunderstand. They don't realize that when he doesn't laugh at their jokes it's because he doesn't understand them. They don't know that when he doesn't speak to them or look at them it's because he doesn't know what to say or how to make eye contact. They don't realize that he behaves this way because he has something called Asperger's Syndrome. Sam knows that his brother Eric is different from him because his brain works differently. So, when the other children bully Eric, it makes Sam feel protective of him. But sometimes, when Eric behaves oddly, Sam feels embarrassed too. Sometimes, when Eric gets lots of attention, it makes Sam feel resentful - then, when he considers that Eric needs a lot of help and attention, it makes Sam feel guilty for feeling resentful. There are so many different feelings Sam experiences! Brotherly Feelings explores the emotions that siblings of children with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) commonly experience. With illustrations throughout, this book will help siblings to understand that their emotional responses - whatever they are - are natural and OK. It is the ideal book for parents and professionals to use with siblings to discuss their emotional experiences, and will also help children with AS to form an understanding of the feelings of other family members.

My Social Stories Book Carol Gray; Abbie Leigh White; Sean McAndrew Jessica Kingsley Publishers; Jessica Kingsley Pub., Jessica Kingsley Publishers, London, 2001
Over the last decade, Carol Gray's Social Stories approach has become established as a highly effective way of teaching social and life skills to children on the autism spectrum. Taking the form of short narratives, the Stories in My Social Stories Book take children step by step through basic activities such as brushing your teeth, taking a bath and getting used to new clothes. It also helps children to understand different experiences such as going to school, shopping and visiting the doctor. These stories are written for preschoolers aged from two to six, and the book is a useful primer for all young children - but most especially those on the autism spectrum. My Social Stories Book contains over 150 Stories, and is illustrated throughout with line drawings by Sean McAndrew, which form a visual counterpart to the text. A helpful introduction explains to parents and carers how to get the most out of the book.

The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome (Autism Spectrum Disorder): Revised Edition Dr Anthony Attwood Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 1, 2008
This is the most comprehensive, complete, and helpful book that I have ever found about Asperger's syndrome. It's great for anyone who has Asperger's syndrome, has a child with Asperger's syndrome, has a friend with Asperger's syndrome, or just wants to know more about the disease. This book doesn't give depressing prognosises, and yet doesn't skip important facts. The Kindle edition for this book is in AZW1 format, so it has its own fonts. This is quite a long book, but with its active Table of Contents (TOC), it's extremely easy to navigate.
