Thirty frames per second : the visionary art of the music video Steve Reiss; Neil Feineman; Craig Clark; Tolleson Design New York: Harry N. Abrams, First Edition edition, PT, 2000
<p>Music videos have radically changed the way we look at the world. Instantly accessible on a global scale, these revolutionary videos have reflected and influenced popular culture, fashion, sports, advertising, art, cinema, television, and new media-as well as music itself.</p><p><i>Thirty Frames Per Second</i> is the first book to showcase the artistic vision of the music video director. What began two decades ago as little more than a marketing tool showing a band's stage performance has now become a director's medium of expression and experimentation. Spike Jonze, Peter Care, Kevin Kerslake, Mark Romanek, and David Fincher are among the 55 top directors featured-many of whom have come from backgrounds in film, advertising, photography, fine art, or architecture, and some of whom have gone on to make feature films. Nearly 400 stills, culled from the most compelling and influential videos, make this visually stimulating survey of the genre a powerful testament to a brashly innovative contemporary art form.</p>

Who am I? The 16 Basic Desires that Motivate Our Actions and Define Our Personalities Steven Reiss New York : Jeremy P. Tarcher/putnam, C2000., 1st, 2000
Sex? Social standing? Social justice? With this breakthrough study of the motivational forces behind human behavior, and grounded in the most up-to-date psychological research available, Dr. Steven Reiss explains the 16 desires and values that shape our behavior-and shows how the ways we prioritize them determines our personality. "Well-explained in lay readers' terms." (Library Journal ) "An exciting new way to think about ourselves, an authoritative, research-based understanding of why we do the things we do." (Ellen Langer, Ph.D., author of Mindfulness) "Offers valuable insight into such matters as why some interpersonal relationships are enduringly satisfying and others are not." (Professor Richard J. McNally, Harvard University) "Reiss' system can improve our working relationships and enhance our professional lives." (Ruth Luckasson, J.D., Regents' Professor and Professor of Special Education, University of New Mexico)

Psychotropic medications and developmental disabilities : the international consensus handbook Steven Reiss, Michael G. Aman Ohio State University Nisonger Center ; Distributed by the American Association on Mental Retardation, Columbus, Ohio], [Washington, D.C.?, ©1998

Psychotropic medications and developmental disabilities : the international consensus handbook / Steven Reiss and Michael G. Aman. Reiss, Steven. Ohio State University Nisonger Center, c1998., Columbus, Ohio], [Washington, D.C.?, ©1998

How the mind works: with a new foreword Pinker, Steven, 1954- W. W. Norton & Company, Incorporated, 1, 2009
"A model of scientific writing: erudite, witty, and clear." —New York Review of BooksIn this Pulitzer Prize finalist and national bestseller, one of the world's leading cognitive scientists tackles the workings of the human mind. What makes us rational—and why are we so often irrational? How do we see in three dimensions? What makes us happy, afraid, angry, disgusted, or sexually aroused? Why do we fall in love? And how do we grapple with the imponderables of morality, religion, and consciousness? ?How the Mind Works?

The Normal Personality : A New Way of Thinking About People Steven Reiss PhD Cambridge University Press (Virtual Publishing), 1, 2008
Many Psychologists regard personality and mental illness as closely related. The shadow of Freudian analysis looms over modern psychopathology, driving many psychologists to try to understand their clients' personal troubles and personalities using constructs developed to study mental illness. They believe that dark, unconscious mental forces that originated in childhood cause personality traits, personal troubles, and mental illnesses. Steven Reiss thinks problems are a normal part of life. In The Normal Personality, Reiss argues that human beings are naturally intolerant of people who express values significantly different from their own. Because of this intolerance, psychologists and psychiatrists sometimes confuse individuality with abnormality and thus over-diagnose disorders. Reiss shows how normal motives, not anxiety or traumatic childhood experiences, underlie many personality and relationship problems, such as divorce, infidelity, combativeness, workaholism, loneliness, authoritarianism, weak leadership styles, perfectionism, underachievement, arrogance, extravagance, stuffed shirt-ism, disloyalty, disorganization, and overanxiety. Based on a series of scientific studies, this book advances an original scientific theory of psychological needs, values, and personality traits. Reiss shows how different points on motivational arc produce different personality traits and values. He also shows how knowledge of psychological needs and values can be applied in counseling individuals and couples. The author describes new, powerful methods of assessing and predicting motivated behavior in natural environments including corporations, schools, and relationships.

The Field Programming Environment: A Friendly Integrated Environment For Learning And Development (the Springer International Series In Engineering And Computer Science) Steven P. Reiss (auth.) Springer US, The Springer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science 298, 1, 1995
FIELD has been a remarkably successful research project. The ideas first exhibited in the environment now form the basis for most of the current generation of programming environments, including Hewlett-Packard's Softbench, DEC's FUSE, Sun's Tooltalk, Lucid's Energize, and SGI's Codevision. FIELD pioneered the notion of broadcast messaging as a basis for tool integration. Moreover, many of the other tool concepts introduced in FIELD have made their way into these environments. Thus in discussing the FIELD environment, this book actually explains the inner workings of today's programming environments. The book will be valuable for those interested in the development of programming tools and environments, as well as serious users of programming environments. It will also be of interest to anyone undertaking a large software project, both by introducing the software tools needed to work on such a project and by demonstrating the concepts of message-based integration which can be applied to a variety of domains.

Designing for Emotion Aarron Walter A Book Apart, Russia, 2011
Universal Principles of Design, Revised and Updated is a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary encyclopedia covering 125 laws, guidelines, human biases, and general considerations important to successful design. Richly illustrated and easy to navigate, it pairs clear explanations of every design concept with visual examples of the ideas applied in practice. From the 80/20 Rule to the Weakest Link, every major design concept is defined and illustrated. Whether a marketing campaign or a museum exhibit, a video game or a complex control system, the design we see is the culmination of many concepts and practices brought together from a variety of disciplines. Because no one can be an expert on everything, designers have always had to scramble to find the information and know-how required to make a design work—until now. Just a few of the principles that will broaden your design knowledge, promote brainstorming, and help you check the quality of your work:Baby-Face BiasExpectation EffectGolden RationOckham's RazorProximityScaling FallacyThe book is organized alphabetically so that principles can be easily and quickly referenced by name. For those interested in addressing a specific problem of design, the principles havealso been indexed by questions commonly confronting designers (How can I help people learn from my design? How can I enhance the usability of a design? How can I make better design decisions?...). Each principle is presented in a two-page format. The first page contains a succinct definition, a full description of the principle, examples of its use, and guidelines for use. Side notes are included, and provide elaborations and references. The second page contains visual examples and related graphics to support a deeper understanding of the principle. This landmark reference is the standard for designers, engineers, architects, and students who seek to broaden and improve their design expertise.

How the mind works: with a new foreword Steven Pinker, Mel Foster, 3 W. W. Norton & Company, Incorporated, Norton pbk., New York, New York State, 1999
In this extraordinary bestseller, Steven Pinker, one of the world's leading cognitive scientists, does for the rest of the mind what he did for language in his 1994 book, The Language Instinct . He explains what the mind is, how it evolved, and how it allows us to see, think, feel, laugh, interact, enjoy the arts, and ponder the mysteries of life. And he does it with the wit that prompted Mark Ridley to write in the New York Times Book Review , "No other science writer makes me laugh so much. . . . [Pinker] deserves the superlatives that are lavished on him." The arguments in the book are as bold as its title. Pinker rehabilitates some unfashionable ideas, such as that the mind is a computer and that human nature was shaped by natural selection, and challenges fashionable ones, such as that passionate emotions are irrational, that parents socialize their children, and that nature is good and modern society corrupting. Winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize A New York Times Notable Book of the Year and Publishers Weekly Best Book of 1997 Featured in Time magazine, the New York Times Magazine , The New Yorker , Nature , Science, Lingua Franca , and Science Times Front-page reviews in the Washington Post Book World , the Boston Globe Book Section , and the San Diego Union Book Review

“A model of scientific writing: erudite, witty, and clear.” —*New York Review of Books*The Pulitzer Prize finalist and national bestseller How the Mind Works is a fascinating, provocative work exploring the mysteries of human thought and behavior. How do we see in three dimensions? How do we remember names and faces? How is it, indeed, that we ponder the nature of our own consciousness? Why do we fall in love? In this bold, extraordinary book, Pinker synthesizes the best of cognitive science and evolutionary biology to explain what the mind is, how it has evolved, and, ultimately, how it works. This edition includes a new afterword that explores the impact of the book and its relevance today.Amazon.com ReviewWhy do fools fall in love? Why does a man's annual salary, on average, increase $600 with each inch of his height? When a crack dealer guns down a rival, how is he just like Alexander Hamilton, whose face is on the ten-dollar bill? How do optical illusions function as windows on the human soul? Cheerful, cheeky, occasionally outrageous MIT psychologist Steven Pinker answers all of the above and more in his marvelously fun, awesomely informative survey of modern brain science. Pinker argues that Darwin plus canny computer programs are the key to understanding ourselves--but he also throws in apt references to Star Trek, Star Wars, The Far Side, history, literature, W. C. Fields, Mozart, Marilyn Monroe, surrealism, experimental psychology, and Moulay Ismail the Bloodthirsty and his 888 children. If How the Mind Works were a rock show, tickets would be scalped for $100. This book deserved its spot as Number One on bestseller lists. It belongs on a short shelf alongside such classics as Darwin's Dangerous Idea: Evolution and the Meanings of Life, by Daniel C. Dennett, and The Moral Animal: Why We Are the Way We Are: The New Science of Evolutionary Psychology, by Robert Wright. Pinker's startling ideas pop out as dramatically as those hidden pictures in a Magic Eye 3D stereogram poster, which he also explains in brilliantly lucid prose. From Library JournalMIT's Pinker, who received considerable acclaim for The Language Instinct (LJ 2/1/94), turns his attention to how the mind functions and how and why it evolved as it did. The author relies primarily on the computational theory of mind and the theory of the natural selection of replicators to explain how the mind perceives, reasons, interacts socially, experiences varied emotions, creates, and philosophizes. Drawing upon theory and research from a variety of disciplines (most notably cognitive science and evolutionary biology) and using the principle of "reverse-engineering," Pinker speculates on what the mind was designed to do and how it has evolved into a system of "psychological faculties or mental modules." His latest book is extraordinarily ambitious, often complex, occasionally tedious, frequently entertaining, and consistently challenging. Appropriate for academic and large public libraries.?Laurie Bartolini, MacMurray Coll. Lib., Jacksonville, Ill.Copyright 1997 Reed Business Information, Inc.

How the mind works: with a new foreword STEVEN PINKER, Pinker, Steven, Steven Pinker W. W. Norton & Company, Incorporated, 1997, 1997
In This Book A Cognitive Scientist Explains How The Brain Evolved To Store And Use Information, Allowing Our Ancestors To Control Their Environment, And Why We Think And Act As We Do. He Explains What The Mind Is, How It Evolved, And How It Allows Us To See, Think, Feel, Laugh, Interact, Enjoy The Arts, And Ponder The Mysteries Of Life. This Work Explains Many Of The Imponderables Of Everyday Life. Why Does A Face Look More Attractive With Makeup? How Do Magic-eye 3-d Stereograms Work? Why Do We Feel That A Run Of Heads Makes The Coin More Likely To Land Tails? Why Is The Thought Of Eating Worms Disgusting? Why Do Men Challenge Each Other To Duels And Murder Their Ex-wives? Why Are Children Bratty? Why Do Fools Fall In Love? Why Are We Soothed By Paintings And Music? And Why Do Puzzles Like The Self, Free Will, And Consciousness Leave Us Dizzy? The Arguments In The Book Are As Bold As Its Title. The Author Rehabilitates Unfashionable Ideas, Such As That The Mind Is A Computer And That Human Nature Was Shaped By Natural Selection. And He Challenges Fashionable Ones, Such As That Passionate Emotions Are Irrational, That Parents Socialize Their Children, That Creativity Springs From The Unconscious, That Nature Is Good And Modern Society Corrupting, And That Art And Religion Are Expressions Of Our Higher Spiritual Yearnings. <p><br>When Patrick scares away the Easter Bunny by mistake, SpongeBob decides to put on a bunny suit and hide eggs for his best friend. But the egg hunt takes an unexpected turn when Patrick finds the biggest egg they have ever seen!</p><h3>Children's Literature</h3><p>SpongeBob is all excited and seeks out his friend Patrick to tell him that the Easter Bunny is coming tomorrow. Patrick seems to be a bit confused, since he thinks that the Easter Bunny will be bringing gifts like Santa Claus. SpongeBob ties to set his friend straight, but it seems like it will be a very difficult task. When the Easter Bunny arrives, attired in his diving suit, Patrick thinks it is an invader and scares him away, only to find out later, much to his chagrin, that he has chased away the real Easter Bunny. Now there are no eggs to find for the egg hunt. SpongeBob decides to help out and colors eggs and hides them for Patrick to find. It is really interesting to see how clueless Patrick is and also how selfish, I guess the message is more about the good heartedness of SpongeBob trying to help his fiend enjoy the egg hunt, but the ending takes a slightly different twist when Patrick brings a huge egg that opens with quite an unpleasant surprise. The Normal Personality : A New Way of Thinking About People Steven Reiss PhD Cambridge University Press (Virtual Publishing), 1, 2008
In The Normal Personality, Steven Reiss argues that human beings are naturally intolerant of people who express values significantly different from their own. Because of this intolerance, psychologists and psychiatrists sometimes confuse individuality with abnormality and thus over-diagnose disorders. Reiss shows how normal motives - not anxiety or traumatic childhood experiences - underlie many personality and relationship problems, such as divorce, infidelity, combativeness, workaholism, loneliness, authoritarianism, weak leadership style, perfectionism, underachievement, arrogance, extravagance, pompousness, disloyalty, disorganisation, and over-anxiety. Calling for greater understanding and tolerance of all kinds of personalities, Reiss applies his theory of motivation to leadership, human development, relationships, and counselling.
